Buddhist Economics 101: Principles of Buddhist Economics

Abstract
Abstract: The aim of the study is to apply fundamental Buddhist principles and ethical values to investigating principles in economics. The core issue is to examine how to reconcile these two systems of thought. First, we will set out the aim and the scope of “Buddhist economics”. We will then examine the characteristics of the analytical frameworks of Buddhism and economics respectively: The former is characterized by an equal emphasis on “is” and “ought/how to” and focuses on purification of mind, whereas the latter postulates the dichotomy of “fact” and “value” and is mainly concerned with human beings’ material welfare. Finally we propose some principles of Buddhist economics.
